Back in the swing of things...

So, after a long break at home full of sorting through my old papers, packing up boxes, sleeping in, and talking to old friends about marriage, babies, and remodeling, I'm back in Boston. Although I enjoyed the time off from work and school, I have to admit that I missed the energy and accessibility of the city. I also never get as much music-related work done when I'm at home, so I feel like I can really get started on arranging and writing for my recital now. This is a good thing, since April 3 will approach more quickly than I expect, and I have a lot of work to do. Speaking of fast-approaching deadlines, the graduate music history exam is in exactly two weeks, and I have yet to choose the three pieces upon which I must prepare three research papers. Of course, they'll choose one of them for me to write on, but since I don't know which, I have to prepare all three. Oh, woe to be a procrastinator around exam time. Wish me luck and speed. I should acknowledge a serendipitous start to the semester today. About three minutes before I was supposed to leave for my first class, I decided to check my email. Lo, and behold, the jazz department assistant had emailed my class to let us know that we wouldn't be meeting today. That is one of my favorite things in the world!!! Must be a good sign for this semester. Perhaps that, and my Dean's List status from the previous one will somehow karmically insure a bump-free ride over the next few months. Well, a girl can hope, can't she?

In other news, I'm beginning to get excited about moving to New York. I've been looking forward to it since I decided to move, but I guess it's actually starting to sink in. I've been there several times, and stayed with several friends, but it's one thing to visit, and quite another to inhabit. I'm also trying not to freak out too much thinking about the cost of moving. Fortunately, there's a chance that a good friend and I can share a U-Haul since we should both be moving at the same time. Before we can plan for that, though, we both need to find apartments. Ack. So much to do, and so little money with which to do it. I guess that's what I've signed up for with the whole performing thing, so I shouldn't complain too much. Oh well, I'm still excited either way. Soon I'll live so much closer to many of my friends. Thank goodness for having a lot of friends in a new city. I don't know what I'd do without them.

Well, I'm off to make myself a sandwich for breakfalunchsupper. My eating habits are just fabulous. After that, it's off to see Brokeback Mountain with my friend Ryan. Perhaps my next blog will be a review. No promises.
